Infertility refers to a man or woman’s inability to get pregnant. Most couples should be able to conceive within a year without any difficulty. If a couple in Thailand is still unable to conceive within this time period, it might be necessary to look into infertility treatments.
How to Test for Infertility
Before the fertility doctor can recommend an infertility treatment, they will run some diagnostic tests to determine the issue (or issues).
Men
- Semen analysis – The fertility doctor will ask for semen samples that can be obtained through masturbation or intercourse. This sample will then be thoroughly analyzed in a lab for sperm count and quality.
- Hormone testing – A blood sample will be taken to gauge the level of testosterone and other male hormones your body produces.
- Genetic testing – Your genes will be analyzed to determine if a genetic defect is present and causing infertility.
- Testicular biopsy – In some patients, a testicular biopsy will be required to determine if any abnormalities are causing infertility. Your doctor will usually retrieve some sperm as well for later use during IVF.
Women
- Ovulation testing – A blood sample is taken to measure the hormone levels to determine if the woman is ovulating.
- Hysterosalpingography – This evaluates the condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes to see if there are any blockages. X-ray contrast liquid is injected into the uterus, which is then followed with an x-ray to see if the uterus is normal and if your fallopian tubes are clear.
- Ovarian reserve testing – The test helps doctors to determine the number of eggs available for ovulation. This test is usually done by blood test and ultrasonography.
- Imaging – The doctor will use an ultrasound to check for any disease in the ovaries.
Infertility Treatments Available at Our IVF Clinic
The IVF Clinic at Vejthani Hospital has several infertility treatments available, including:
Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) – This procedure is usually used when the male partner produces too few sperm for a normal IVF procedure. Unlike traditional IVF, which uses around 50,000 sperm placed in a dish next to an egg, ICSI involves using a micropipette to inject a single sperm into the center of the egg. Once fertilization has occurred, the embryo is grown in the lab for up to 5 days and then placed into the woman’s womb.
Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) – PGD allows couples to test their embryo for any abnormal chromosomes before it is planted into the uterus. Various genetic tests can also be performed to ensure that the embryo is free from disease.
Vejthani Hospital has one of the best IVF treatment facilities in Thailand. Fertility issues are as different as the couples it affects. That’s why our IVF clinic has a range of infertility treatments available to help you. Contact us today.
