Ovarian Stimulation

Ovarian Stimulation Maximizing the chance of Getting Pregnant.

Have you ever heard about “Ovarian stimulation”? If you’re having difficulty in getting pregnant, you might need to know why and when you will need the ovarian stimulation.

Basically, each month, one of those eggs will naturally mature in a follicle on the ovary and then be released, which is called ovulation. But in women with infertility condition, only one egg might not be enough because the chance of getting pregnant is quite low. Thus, we need the ovarian stimulation to stimulate more egg production in order to
maximize the chance of getting pregnant.

There are 2 methods of how to do the ovarian stimulation which is medication and injection.

For women who wants to stimulate more egg production in order to undergo Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) and to increase the chance of getting pregnant before having sexual intercourse, the doctor will consider using low-dose of ovulation induction drugs or injections because only 1 – 3 eggs are enough to get pregnant.

For women who wants to do In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), the doctor will use high-dose of ovulation induction through injections because the IVF procedure needs more eggs to increase the success rate of IVF pregnancy.

The proper time to start the ovarian stimulation session is the first 2 -3 days of the menstrual period. Basically, the ovarian stimulation session takes around 5 – 10 days in order to increase the size and quality of the eggs. The doctor will keep checking on the size of the eggs by using the ultrasound machine.

Undergoing the ovarian stimulation might increase the hormone level and that may lead to a sleep disorder, bloating, headache, and ascites in some cases. However, these side effects occur for just a short period of time.
